Insurance
While I am not contracted with any private insurance companies, the overwhelming majority of my patients utilize an out-of-network benefits for their treatment. I encourage any prospective patient to be aware of their out-of network coverage (including deductible and reimbursement rate) at the onset of treatment.
Initial Evaluation/Follow-up Appointments
The initial evaluation can serve the purpose of a consultation without the commitment of follow-up or a second opinion, but most commonly is first visit in the course of one's treatment. All follow-up appointments are a full 45-minutes and consist of psychotherapy with or without medication management. Not all patients are expected to or recommended to take medication. The 45-minute follow-up ensures that you will never feel that you are being rushed out of the office and allows for greater continuity between appointments.
Evidence-Based Medicine
All treatments provided in the office, whether it be psychotherapy or medication, are evidence-based. This means that the treatment is in accord with universally accepted treatment guidelines and/or backed by scientific literature. That is not to say that I am reluctant to think outside of the box and consider the experiences and goals of each unique patient. I come from a position recognizing the standard of care and then working from there.
Confidentiality/Patient Autonomy
Confidentiality and patient autonomy in treatment decisions are priorities of the practice. I generally encourage the involvement of family, friends, and other existing healthcare providers in one's treatment seeing this predicts a better outcome. Still, this is not mandatory or imposed. I very much want patients to feel they are in the driver's seat of their treatment and be rest assured that their wishes for privacy will be respected. I value coordinating care with other mental health specialists (i.e. therapists), doctors (i.e. primary care physicians), and all treatment providers (i.e. intensive-outpatient programs).
